Off topic though, just to inform you that Google websites have updated their favicons. The new Google icon looks a bit futuristic, but doesn't have that gorgeous appearance of the previous favicon as the new one is a simple g letter. Blogger also has got a new green colour favicon with the letters, hp (strange!) which is displayed only in feed readers. It seems that Nokia is continually updating its devices and getting ready for something. The E61i just got a firmware update to v3.0. According to Play.com, the much hyped Nokia N96 is to be shipped on from 31st July. But honestly, I don't think you'll have to wait that longer. Because,
1. 3G iPhone might probably be released in June
2. There are lots of upcoming (and one better than N96) Nokia devices to be announced.

Sri Lanka has the South Asia's only 3G networks. With speeds of up to 14.4Mbps downlink and 3.6Mbps uplink provided by Mobitel and 1.6Mbps provided by Dialog. Both networks have covered the majority of the land mass with 3G and Sri Lanka's mobile industry is already growing at a rapid pace. Nokia is the prime mobile phone manufacturing brand in Sri Lanka and is always Sri Lankans first choice. But yet, Sri Lanka is not in Nokia's website. A Sri Lankan cannot even subscribe to a newsletter from Nokia as the country list doesn't include Sri Lanka. Nokia Asia website includes even Bangladesh, India and Vietnam, why not Sri Lanka?? Dear bloggers, readers and friends who think that mobile communication must be a truly global communication, join in to make a voice !

4. Advanced Device Locks.

5. Y-Browser.
The great and free file management utility for S60 phones made by Dr.Jukka Svenson (a.k.a Symbian_yucca). Which gives you the full control over your files. Visit http://drjukka.com to download.
6. Y-Tasks.
Another great product from Dr.Jukka. This free utility is made with developers in mind, but can be of immense use to any S60 user. It is a sort of task manager and has a more advanced control over your phone's system tasks. Download from drjukka.com.
7. Beeper.
One of the very latest S60 freewares which won a place in this ranking. It gives you the ability to have a customised info bar (RAM, Time or battery level etc.) (Read my review on this blog)on any place of your S60 phone's screen. I'll update the download location soon.
REQUEST: My idea for an application. Handy Taskman can integrate with task manager key. Why can't someone create an advanced notepad utility that can integrate with the pencil/hash key? I'm sure it would be a great product.

According to two PDF documents that James Powell at Talk About NSeries blog has found (and I found at The Nokia Guide), the N96 seems to boast a USB data transfer speed of 50Mbit/s, up to five times faster than the N95 & N95 8GB which have 5Mbit/s speeds according to the PDF file called "Evolution of N Series Computer". See for yourself by the screenshots that I've posted.

Beeper is a new multifunctional utility freeware for S60 3rd Edition phones. The application can be set to display time, free RAN, date, battery level etc. on the top left corner of the screen and you can customize fonts and colours. It does a good job, but it would have been better and much useful if it was in the top right corner of the screen as left is the corner mainly used for most indications. As you can see, when set on, the display bar of Beeper blocks the packet data connection icon in applications that use internet. But, yet it's a highly useful utility. Look for the screenshots.



Update : The position of the display bar, it's size and font size is fully customizable. You can edit them all from the Bar Face setting. I apologize for any inconvenience caused. I'll make sure that this sort of mistakes don't take place again.

After sometime, I was home this morning and I decided to take some photos from N95 in this morning breeze. I first took a few shots of various stuff around my home and suddenly my attention moved to flowers. Wow! Amazing! Today was the day that I understood how great the N95 was as a camera. The shots came out to be REALLY GREAT!!! Amazing, they depict every single detail of the object and autofocus feature made the shots look much much more arty! Wow! I realise why some people would tend to just carry their Nokia 5MP camera equipped mobile phone instead of their digital camera. This is what mobile multimedia computers have become. However, unfortunately, the N95 being my only internet connection has limited my bandwidth. But, I don't want it to be the reason to hide some great artistic shots of Sri Lanka's nature. Hence, I'll be uploading this photo now (which proved to be the greatest shot) and will upload the other as soon as possible. Note that this shot was taken only in 3 Mega Pixels resolution and it being the original photo, not a single editing effect was applied, shows how great the N95 is as a camera. Some of the screenshots show screenshots of some other photos, from the N95.

Just a brief, that Nokia has announced that it's Maps 2.0 client has left the beta state and is ready to be downloaded now. Maps 2.0 includes a host of new features including pedestrian mode and satellite imagery.

I had recently bought a carry case for the Nokia N95, but didn't
notice how nice it looks on photos up until now. So, here we go..
Carry case and the N95 both make appearances in the photos. The second
photo shows the N95 inside the carry case. Once again, sorry for the
bad quality images, most of them were taken from my old Nokia 6233.
However, the carry case is pretty useful to keep the device looking
good and it did cost me only a single dollar to buy it too!

Nokia Software Updater (NSU) will be down to scheduled maintenance 17 May 1900 GMT - 18 May 1900GMT. Customers attempting to use the service will see a "Connected device not supported" message.

As I've been a bit stucked up with my schedule and fell in love with the N95, I couldn't find much time for blogging. Sorry for that and now I'm going to cover you on Web browsing capabilities of the N95. The device is capable to open any sort of website without much hassle and with the latest firmware upgrade, it gives you the ability to view Flash 9 content. The web browser comes with a toolbar and this can be opened anytime by long clicking on an empty area of a webpage. However the most important feature in the browser for me was the Mini View of webpage which you can get by pressing 8 anytime. Every webpage opened can be zoomed in and out seamlessly and the best view you can get is the 75% zoom which is switched on by pressing #. As many bloggers have already posted a lot on the browsing capabilites of this great device, I don't hope to bore you with them.
