Skyfire and Your Privacy : Did You Think Twice ?

Guys, did any of you read Skyfire's privacy agreement ? http://www.skyfire.com/about/privacy-and-security

They suggest that they collect all your usernames, passwords, credit card numbers and other sensitive information and I'm afraid whether they wish to earn a good money from selling your info. But the worst part is that, this sort of disclaimer can make most users afraid of using SkyFire as SkyFire requests for their email address and phone number from the beginning as this sort of info can easily help build your virtual character in SkyFire's databases ( if they keep any).

Now, the question is, whether they really plan to do so ? If any Skyfire official can comment on this, I'd be more than glad to publish it here. And depending on how they act, Skyfire shall one day become my favourite browser as well - as it has the full potential to become the king of mobile browsing. And I'd be glad to review it despite all these security concerns (and I may be able to reveal the truth too - if there's nothing to worry about). Comments are welcome !

I'm back !

Hi all ! I'm back in business and thanks to all you guys for keep checking back (yes, it had set some record numbers of hits since the Tube revealation. So you aren't the only one reading this at the moment. Why not tell a friend about us too ? Thanks guys !). The only special event while I wasn't online was the launch of SAMSUNG's N96 killer - 8510 INNOV8. Which we already knew about ( eh.. Did I write about it ? ). In case you are not that aware, it's just another 8MP phone running S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2. But this signals something good, with this, Nokia will accelerate its plans to launch its next high - end device. Stay tuned !

EXCLUSIVE: FIRST SCREENSHOTS OF S60 5TH EDITION

S60v5 - MobileRoyale.Tk

The above is a screenshot of the VGA resolution version of S60 5th Edition UI. As you see, it is touch enabled and you won't need the application key (top left) on the keypad anymore. The screenshot was taken on Carbide UI 3.2.

A BIG THANK GOES ICEman_c81 for kindly providing this screenshot (If the name sounds familiar, yes, he's a great theme maker too).

Symbian Foundation launched, Symbian to be fully owned by Nokia

Creating big news for the Symbian ecosystem, Nokia Corp. has decided to acquire all the shares of Symbian Limited. Symbian Ltd. is the manufacturer of Symbian OS, which is the core platform for UIQ and S60 UIs. Nokia already owns a controlling stake in Symbian, but with this decision they will be acquiring the remainig 52% shares from other shareholders for an estimated EUR264 million. The press release on this by Nokia is available here

They have also decided to set up Symbian Foundation in cooperation with some key players of the mobile industry including AT&T, EA Mobile, LG Electronics, Motorola, NTT DoCoMo, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, T-Mobile, Texas Instruments and Vodafone. All of the mobile manufacturers in Symbian Foundation are already using the Symbian platform. More on the planned organization can be found at their website .

The first seven applications that I install on my S60

A reply to Mark Guim...
These are the first seven applications that I install

1. Opera Mini - The free, super little web browser. Low in size, low on bandwidth, high in quality. Point your JAVA enabled phone's browser to http://mini.opera.com for instant free download.
2. Screenshot - The famous screen capturing solution. Made by Antony Pranata. A must have for every mobile phone blogger. Available at www.antonypranata.com . For S60 phones only. Freeware.
3. Handy Taskman.
A great shareware task manager utility which directly integrates onto the task manager key (long press on Menu key) giving you a more sophisticated view of current tasks including the RAM, Date and memory status info. Also has the ability to add your favorite applications for quick access. 14 days trial. Visit http://epocware.mobi on your phone.
4. Advanced Device Locks.
This shareware gives you the ability to password protect every application like Messaging, Camera or Opera Mini in your phone. However, the trial period is limited to 7 days.
5. Y-Browser.
The great and free file management utility for S60 phones made by Dr.Jukka Svenson (a.k.a Symbian_yucca). Which gives you the full control over your files. Visit http://drjukka.com to download.
6. Y-Tasks.
Another great product from Dr.Jukka. This free utility is made with developers in mind, but can be of immense use to any S60 user. It is a sort of task manager and has a more advanced control over your phone's system tasks. Download from drjukka.com.
7. Beeper.
One of the very latest S60 freewares which won a place in this ranking. It gives you the ability to have a customised info bar (RAM, Time or battery level etc.) (Read my review on this blog)on any place of your S60 phone's screen. I'll update the download location soon.
REQUEST: My idea for an application. Handy Taskman can integrate with task manager key. Why can't someone create an advanced notepad utility that can integrate with the pencil/hash key? I'm sure it would be a great product.

Going Safari with your S60 Web

I do not like hacking when it's after effects will lead to dangerous stuff, but when hacking is used to do good, I don't object it. This is one of those moments. Teo over at Symbian Freak has found a revolutionary application which will completely change the way you see the web on your S60 phone. The new applet will support tweaking of your phone web browser's User Agent (the little piece of information which your phone sends out to websites when you surf, which will help the site identify that you are a mobile and will select the website version that you use)thus giving you better and different versions of web pages. It can change your S60 Web's User Agent into iPhone, Opera and much more. Click here to read more, see the screenshots and download the app.

Nokia 6650 real life pics

Guys over at Engadget Mobile have posted some pics of the all new Nokia 6650 for T-Mobile. The device sports a 1500 mAh BP-4L battery and is only 16.2mm thick. Read the coverage here at Engadget. Note that the model is Nokia 6650 and being stated as 6550 is a mistake made by the Engadget writer.

Skyfire coming to N95

The new web browser for Windows Mobile enabled mobile phones, Skyfire, is close to completion of a new Skyfire version on the N95. An engineer at Skyfire revealed that it is working great at an IntoMobile news discussion. It seems that we can expect Skyfire on S60 devices soon!

S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 official specs - Not as great as expected

S60.com revealed more info on the new FP2 a few days ago. However it has only minor improvements and I feel that they could have done better. The most improvements are Email handling related and this is a good clue that we will see more E Series devices with this Feature Pack. We can expect some hot stuff over there at Mobile World Congress. Read more on FP2 here at S60.com .
