
Symbian Foundation launched, Symbian to be fully owned by Nokia
Creating big news for the Symbian ecosystem, Nokia Corp. has decided to acquire all the shares of Symbian Limited. Symbian Ltd. is the manufacturer of Symbian OS, which is the core platform for UIQ and S60 UIs. Nokia already owns a controlling stake in Symbian, but with this decision they will be acquiring the remainig 52% shares from other shareholders for an estimated EUR264 million. They have also decided to set up Symbian Foundation in cooperation with some key players of the mobile industry including AT&T, EA Mobile, LG Electronics, Motorola, NTT DoCoMo, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, T-Mobile, Texas Instruments and Vodafone.
